Sketching:	Sketch Book: This can be almost any type of drawing book.  A dollar- store sketch book or a cheap variety from Wal-mart will be fine.  It should be about the size of a normal page of paper. Pencils: You should also have a good drawing pencil.  (The softer the better - 2B,  4B or 6B would be good).  Also a few sticks of soft vine charcoal.  Any artist store would have these.
